| Is it actually under development? Last I heard, there was no 2.7 kernel (which would be the development version that eventually becomes the stable 2.8), and none was planned. The only references I can find are from around last April/May, but I'm sure I heard something earlier this year about SCO demanding that Torvalds hand over all material related to the 2.7 kernel, and Torvalds replied that there was nothing to hand over.
The current MO for kernel development is to make incremental changes and periodically release a new 2.6 kernel when they feel like the new material is release-ready. They plan on keeping with that scheme until something happens that requires a fundamental change in how the kernel works. |
