X_X. RHEL5 is not for laptop. you can install it on laptop but its optimized for servers and data centers. you can consider something more desktop/laptop based. try here ---> DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD.

and SCSI is supported in RHEL5, in-fact RHEL have very good disk support and partitioning support.

Indeed, what b2bwild said! RHEL is not recommended for laptops. Because it uses an older kernel than newer distributions such as Ubuntu or Fedora it cannot handle things like laptop battery power management, wireless devices (WiFi or Bluetooth), and such nearly as well. While I use CentOS/RHEL on my workstation, I use Ubuntu on my laptop. It is a MUCH better option.

Linux Mint XFCE edition is the best suited distro for laptops for me.

though, if you want RHEL for studies or something else, special purpose. you can god with fedora which is mostly similer in structure and commands.

Ok. Understand that. In order to get all your laptop stuff working correctly, you should install Ubuntu, or one of the other current and up-to-date distributions that handle the laptop hardware better. Then, get VirtualBox from Sun and run RHEL 5.x in a virtual machine. It can use the laptop's network connection (wireless or wired) and you won't have to futz with all that stuff and can focus on what you are using RHEL 5 for. That's what I do - get the best software for the hardware, then run all the other stuff I need in a VM.

Simply do the following, I tried it tonight and it worked:
1- boot with the DVD but do not press enter in the welcome screen.
2- in the centos welcome screen write: linux irqpoll
3- The system will start and you will be able to install perfectly.
