i have an old laptop that i want to use linux to it
what linux os should i use for this kind of specs?

Windows 2000
x86 Family model 8 stepping
10
AT/AT Compatible
256 RAM


this is n ibm thinkpad that i could actully try to use linux..this is my first time using linux and i really wanted to really learn about this.

help me please..

thanks for the reply. i am also wondering if i cant encounter problems using any kind of linux os when connecting to the net. is there any thing to concider?

The main thing you might want to look into is what wireless card/adapter you have. Most wireless drivers are now included in the Linux kernel, but you might have to install the firmware for it.
If you have an onboard NIC, then it should be ready to go without any issues. And then you'll be able to post info here on what chipset you have, and we'll guide you through the wireless setup.

I decided to download puppy since i find it convincing when they talk about puppy [dingo]. I'll be back here after i install this..

i'm still confuse:

i havent see a tutorial for installing the puppy linux nor the dsl as the main OS.
i only found usb installation.

What i really wanted is for this linux system to be my main OS like puppy or DSL.

I got this from Puppy's homepage: hard-Puppy

You should be able to boot up the LiveCD, and you'll find the installer in the setup menu.

i'm currently using this in livecd. still unaware how to fully install this puppy i've followed the step by step given by the universal installer but didnt work. can you lead me to the step by step instruction please.

i also wanted the partition that dont work, been searching for tips but cant find. how dyou guys erase linux-swap in gparted?
