Linux for Sony Vaio SZ 483N/C
Hi All,

I know how to install linux as I've done it before on PC's. But this is my first on a laptop.

Which is the most user friendly linux that would;

1. Allow me to boot from the external HDD? &
2. Not have any issue with drivers for this laptop?

If You know how to install Linux on a Desktop. Then you know you can run a Live Cd first to see what works and what doesn't. Any of the top 20 distros at distro watch would fill the bill. I am installing a Debian based distro on a IBM laptop after I ran it live first to make sure the wireless and everything worked. That is the best way IMO and you can use Unetbootin to make a live USB in case you don't want to waste cds.

Welcome to the forums!

Ubuntu and OpenSUSE are always popular choices for laptops, but any distro should work with some tweaking and extra effort.

Hope you have fun with it, and do let us know what you wind up installing.
