Toshiba Satelite...Alinux...Can Anyone Guide Me Step by Step

Ok first off, I need to say no laugh at me as my dizziness rules my head. I bought a new Toshiba laptop and decided apparently everything was runnin to great and I wanted to do something apparently to ruin a good thing.
I bought a bunch of linux distros but love Alinux however it doesn't support my modem. I downloaded drivers, burned em to disk and tried to further break my system . I dont know how to install drivers on linux and have tried followin instructions from all over. Is there anyone out here that can guide me step by step exactly how to install drivers.
I know that it is Agere but that is all I know cause I couldnt even get Modem Scan to work. No I aint dumb lol just dumb to linux...lol plz help
