sound not switched when headphones are plugged in on suse 10.2 on my compaq f560

Hi guys,
I installed suse 10.2 on my compaq presario f560US. Sound works fine with the inbuilt speakers but headphones are not identified when plugged in.Because even when plugged in, sound output is still from the inbuilt speakers. How do I solve such a problem?

I have similar issues with openSUSE 10.3. The only trick that I have found is to mute the volume for "front" or "speaker" using kmix when you need to use the headphones. Also make sure that the headphone volume is not muted.
