Hot swappaing?

Is there an appl for linux to allow hot swapping of drives on the universial bus ie:cd/dvd/floppy wihtout shutting down/change hdwr./boot

Or is there a patch or someway to do this at this time without shutting down...(and don'tsay unmount pull drive, that causes an inumeralbe amount of problems as you can imagine)

Or atleast a way to shut off/on(or mount/unmount the whole bus) the universial bus to allow warm plugging?

But of course you have to make sure you have hotswappable drives...You don't really wanna take a normal IDE drive out while you're running...

thnx lord ...all that stuff works though,I think i was actualy looking for a way to warm plug thease drives so i wouldn't momentarily fry the system ( It's done in windoz with a software utility)

now sarumont your right ones an ide, ones a scsi,& one is floppy.
for me this is no longer an issue ..i just use a usb flash drive and the cd/dvd
and shutdown to put the burner in. just thought i'd see if there was a way.

so i take it there will be no way to do this ......cause they now have cd -r-rw/dvd/-r-rw as one drive now on the newest lappies eh!......plan:
sell generator buy new lappie as planned
