OK I managed to get both PCs to ping eachother however I have a problem to get the XP machine to connect to the internet through the ubuntu machine.

The machines are connected like this:

172.16.0.2 - UBUNTU PC - 192.168.1.66 [dhcp]----> 192.168.1.254 [MODEM]
|
| < cross over cable
|
172.16.0.1 - XP SP2 PC

I want that the XP machine connects to the internet through proxy and dansguardian which is 172.16.0.2. This is the configuration of the routing on my ubuntu machine : ImageShack - Hosting :: screenshot1jv1.png

Can you help? Thanks

I'm not an expert on setting up a connection like that, but I believe you'll have to specify tour IP address, default gateway and all that good stuff on your XP machine. Also, set up your Ubuntu box to act as a router. This link should help with that.
