Exclamation How to send AT to modem without build up PPP

hi everyone

I need to do test if modem works fine before going up to a PPP link. But we dont wanna use minicom. right now we r using pppd call filename. but it will automatically go to get a connection with PPP. since we wanna test if modems works fine sometimes, i need to do a script or find a function that only runs at command to modem without PPP or dial up thing.

can anybody help?

Thanks
