the post in the tutorial section tells you how to install Lucent Linmodem support using the RPM packages available on the web. It also mentions that you can get the drivers in a zipped file that you have to compile yourself.
Well, I just tried this and it is not quite that easy.
First, there are two zipped files at the German site mentioned, the first is for version 2.2.* versions of the kernel, while the second is for 2.4.* versions.
Second, before downloading the correct file, make sure that you have a copy of 'pciutils' (available from
ftp://atrey.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/pub/linux/pci/) and that the 'lspci' executable is in (or has a link to ) /bin or /sbin or /usr/bin or /usr/sbin , as the 'scanmodem script with the ltmodem drivers requires it.
Once you have downloaded and done the usual install (make, make install) you can think about the ltmodem driver install, but ..
You'll need to make sure that you have the kernel header files available (ie. make sure that you ask for the kernel source code to be installed at install time) and that these are in the 'usual' place (if not make a symbolic link to /usr/src/linux ).
Now you're ready to install the ltmodem drivers. Goto the sub-driectory that you unzipped them into, and enter './build_module' this will take you through a bunch of screens, where you have to press enter to proceed. The last message that the ./build_module script (a bit like a Windows batch file or a clist) tells you what to run next and yet again you'll be presented with a bunch of screens that you have to enter past. The last message of this , second, script will tell you what to run next (./autoload, if I remember rightly). This will set things up for you and give you the option to run a checking script, just to see that everything is okay.
So, as you see, it's a bit around the houses, but it can be done and does have a lot of informational screens to help you along the way.
