The sit* interfaces are, AFAIK, pseudo-interfaces to run IPv6-in-IPv4 tunnels.

i never had that interface up...i just rebooted my machine and saw sit0 up...any idea what might have changed?? I did not do anything to run
IPv6-in-IPv4 tunnels.

The sit interfaces come automagically with the 2.6 kernel. It doesn't seem very up to me; what makes you think it is?

oh...so sit does not come with 2.4.x kernels??
if so that explains it then....i used to use 2.4.x kernels before and just booted thru 2.6.0 and saw the interface...
