Hi,

I have a machine with Debian Etch and kernel 2.6.8. I connect to the machine via ssh and https, no user interface. The machine works fine and is stable when connected directly to the network.

Now to the problem,
I want to place the machine where the only possible connection to the network is via a wireless link. The link is set up by two D-link devices, one as Access Point and one as AP client (tried both DWL-810 and DWL-2100AP as the client). The problem is that the Linux computer cannot find the network when placed on the AP client side. And the Linux machine cannot be found from the network side of the bridge, ping or SSH.

I have put a switch (DES-1005) between the AP client and the Linux machine so that I also can connect my ordnary WinXP machine on the same side of the bridge. With the Win XP computer I can connect to the network over the bridge. I can ping the Linux machine from the WinXP machine and also connect to it via SSH (although it takes a long time (15 s.) to connect) when they both are on the AP client side. But then, when I have connected to the Linux machine from the WinXP machine via SSH, I cannot ping the WinXP machine back, nor the AP client. The only machine it can ping is itself. And, as said above, the Linux machine cannot be found from the network side of the bridge, ping or SSH.

The bridge devices use static IP.

The ifconfig looks the same eigther the Linux machine is on the network side (where it works fine) or on the AP client side (where it doesn't work):

I do not get very much help from the IT support guys, cause it works fine on their WinXP machine (as on my WinXP machine).
If anyone have any ideas of what the problem is that you can share, I would be most grateful. Thanks!
