Some questions about displaying photo information

Under windows it is possible when using the "details" mode of viewing folders to choose the details displayed, notably the "date picture taken" and "camera model". I assume that that information is obtained from the "Exif"? data attached to, or imbedded in, the image.
Q1) Is it possible to get and display these two additional details under linux or is it a distribution specific question? I am using Mandrake 10.1 .

Also under windows, by 'right clicking' the image or its 'icon' it is possible to view the exif data and I would like to be able to do this under linux.
Q2) Is it possible to view the exif data under linux?

Ideally I would like to be able, under linux, to open the folders/directories containing the images and have, in a details viewing mode, some of the exif data displayed, eg exposure time, f.stop, exp adjustment etc.

So far I have used the std mandrake 10.1 web browser, I don't remember its name, to view the directories holding photos but as yet have been unable to display any 'fancy' details. Nor have I seen a method of doing it via the command line. I have had a quick look at, I think, GIMP but didn't see any possibility of using that but it was just a quick look at 'GIMP'.
Thanks

I can't personally answer both your questions in detail, but gwenview as far as I know is an image viewer with exif capabilities. There is also a package called "exif" for Linux to view jpeg files' exif data but that's in terminal.

Thanks, I'll have a look for gwenview.
Incidently I did find EXIF Pilot Light 3_0_2 which is a freebie for windows and displays the exif data for all of the photos in a given folder, it looks quite good but I have yet to compare it to the 'right click' exif data.
