Hi all i want to edit the text file "rootcopy\etc\X11\xinit\xinitrc" and change the URL in the last line from Main Page - InfoDabble to Google. I know that xinitrc uses unix newline codes but i don't know what conversion utility should i use. I tried to open xinitrc with notepad but it will make the linux crash!!
I be happy if you guys teach me step by step how to make such changes. Thanks

This is border-line "not a GNU/Linux question". You are using (pardon my piglatin) one of the stoopidest editors on the <insert personal feelings here> OS of all time. If "notepad" had any fewer features it wouldn't even exist (i used to use it all the time though too ).

If you would of punched your message into a search engine instead of this forum, you would have a thousand links to different programs that all offer this functionality. Some are small, quick and to the point, other are larger. Editors that come with IDE's (programming environments) usually offer this feature.

Thanks for your reply. I am trying edit a linux file from within windows and burn it in to cd. So can you post the direct link for such linux text editor ?

If you are dealing with *nix files in Windows ... I would suggest using Notepad++.

how i know the file is *nix ? do you mean the notpad that comes with windows ? i already used that and it didn't work !!

I did not state Notepad ... I stated Notepad++

Notepad++

The file you are editing comes from a Linux OS ... this is a *nix OS ... Linux or Unix.

Use the editor above and select Unix formatting.
