| Hi katmac. It's been a while.
Some details on your internet provider, and the modem/router that they provided, would help. You most likely have to enable the wireless function, as they are usually disabled by default.
The router can usually be configured by using a browser, like Firefox. You need to type the default router IP address into the browser, and this should bring up the router config pages. The router IP address depends on the brand and model.
EDIT: You can determine the router IP address using NetworkManager. Right-click the taskbar icon and select "Connection Information". At the bottom of the window that pops up, will be the "Default Route" and "Primary DNS". On my router/modem these are the same, and that IP address will bring up the config pages. Type it into the browser address window like this:
http://192.168.1.254
Use the address that you got from the connection information. How you enable the wireless will still depend upon the brand of router you have.
