Linux is NOT Microsoft Windows, explained.

Due to the frequency with which folks new to Linux post threads like "Linux would finally beat Windows if..." or "If Linux just did XXX like Microsoft Windows, I'd use it..." I think it is necessary to pass along this very helpful link that explains in detail just why it is that threads like this get locked.

We don't hate you or Microsoft Windows, we just know that Linux does things differently, and we think that it's perfectly okay for operating systems to be different. Linux is not Microsoft Windows, and here are some very good explanations as to why:

Its a long read, but a very, very good one. The motorcycle/car analogy was right on. I also found the idea of the newbie WANTING linux vs. the newbie WANTING to get away from windows as quite an insightful perspective.

This should be required reading for anyone thinking about trying linux...
