Streaming videos (wmv videos)
For example, I go to this website and they would have this mini windows media screen in it. It would then play the video as it is downloading, it has to download itself every time I want to watch it (I can't save it). Any solutions?
I have MPlayer.
If you can't right-click and "Save As...", I usually just check the page's HTML code to find the path of the video, and go to that, then File -> Save Page As...
you need mplayer and mplayerplug-in installed. But the most important thing is that you have win32codecs package installed or else mplayer won't be able to play wmv.
also have a look at my thread on this topic a while back
any questions let me know since i spent a significant time on trying to get this to work
I downloaded mplayerplug-in and I already have the windows codec. This is a far as I have got. Is the plug-in suppost to work automatically, or is there something I need to do to firefox, for the screen to even appear.
you need to cp the .xpt files into the components directory of firefox and you need to copy the .so files into the plugin directors of firefox.
then you can verify plugins are installed by doing
"aboutlugins" in your browsers url field.
I don't know why there is a smily but its supposed to say
about colon plugins
I ran about : plugins
and it says that all the things I want to view are enabled.
Now when I go to a site, it gives me this grey box that says: mplayer-plugin.
Then it says: buffering loading xx%
Then it says: stopped
When I right click and press play, it gives me:
Generating playlist (or something like that)
Then it says: stopped.
I still can't view it.
In some other occasions, even the grey box is missing.
edit your ~/.mplayer/config and try different vo's
type mplayer -vo help in command line to see options
also try cnn videos
i think it's www.cnn.com/video
if you can't play those then you don't have wmv9 ability and the codecs aren't installed properly.
