Choosin' My Distro

ok guys my linux box recently crashed and my new cd is corrupt so what the hell I'm gettin' another distro ok so I'm choosin' between suse 10.2, fedora core 5, gentoo 2005 or 2006 or mandriva 2006 oh or slack. Any Suggestions?

fedora core 5 no go

thats what crashed before so I guess thats a no go

Wow! Fedora crashes once and you want to throw it out and get a different distro.

Compare that to my own attitude just a few years ago when I was still using Windows 98. I was not too unhappy if it only crashed once per day.

Viva la free software revolution!

Eh, I'm no real fan of Fedora. It works nicely, configures itself, but it's too bloated. That's been my complaint. I tried Gentoo as well, only to find that I was tired of having to wait as it compiled *everything* when I upgraded it. Take compile time into consideration if you're really looking at using Gentoo. Haven't used any of the others, but if you're looking at Slack and Gentoo, have a look at Arch. I found it was what I was looking for in a distro.

Like Cyrano, I'm a bit partial to Arch, too. Of course, you might absolutely hate it... but you won't know until you try it.

No one can choose a distro for you. If one doesn't work, try another. Eventually one will float your boat.
