You can download samba from its web site,
http://www.samba.org

Or,it may be included in your distro.

If you're using Debian, the best method is:

apt-cache search samba
apt-get install the.thing.that.cache.returned

If you're not comfortable with compiling your own software you should do the above. If you're running any other distro I'm not sure about their package managers.

Anyway, on Samba.org you must pick an FTP mirror.

If you downloaded Mandrake 9.2 it should be on the CD 2. I used Webmin to setup my Samba shares, but that is because I'm accessing my box externally.

To install Samba in the terminal, insert CD2 and type:

rpm -ivh /mnt/cd[tab]/M[tab]/R[tab]/samba[tab]

This should install samba for you.

To insall Webmin

rmp -ivh /mnt/cd[tab]/M[tab]/R[tab]/webmin[tab]

Make sure you do all this as root.

Then type in the command drakxservices and make samba and webmin load on boot.

Then from any PC on the net, you can access you linux box by going to the site https:// [linux box ip]:10000
