The main differences between Linux, Unix and other Unix like OSes are the kernel and supporting tools. Linux uses the GNU tool chain and the Linux kernel. BSD uses its own tool chain and kernel although you can add the GNU tools if you wish. The same applies for Solaris and other Unix OSes. Linux is one of the few OSes where the tool chain and kernel are not developed by the same project. I terms of hardware support, I find that Linux supports more hardware than other Unix OSes followed closely by the BSDs.

Linux is a kernel, ie the bit of the OS which needs to be there, but you should never be aware of in normal use if it works properly.

Unix is a trademark. there used to be an OS called Unix, but it is so long since it's descendants diverged that the name is pretty useless now. if you see it in use it is probably historical, marketing or someone who is confused. it's like looking for a modern human population to label as homo-erectus.
so, basically you are looking at a large number of Unix-like operating systems, some of which use Linux as their kernel, some of which don't.

to add another dodgy metaphor, Volkswaggon once created a car called the Golf which was so successful that lots of cars now are visibly descendants of that design. some of them share the same kind of engine. however none of those cars is a golf, and certainly the engine isn't.

The main difference between Linux (a Minix descendant but with no code from it) and the rest of Unix is the kernel and the toolchain

Wikipedia has a great article on Unix which includes a lot of its history Unix - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Everything actually began on 1960

It is not features that distinguish them, it is the history. Unix is not a singular OS and has not been for a long time. Linux is Unixlike, but it is not Unix because Unix is a trademark.

However the Posix standards are followed quite closely by all systems and any application written to Posix standards should be able to compile and run on any Unix-like system.
