new user need a little help

working on a small project that i want to stray away from m$

im using a mini itx epia 800 and a linksys wireless g pci card a 7" non vga monitor and internal sound 20 gig hd and 256 mb ram ( i know its not a lot of ram but please read on)

im puting this in my own enclosure with some powered speakers and want to stream my itunes audio and or on line streaming content to it

id like a good easy to use distro ( maby striped down of one ) that will give me easy to use controls -- i have a keyboard replacement card that will hook buttons to that will be mapped to key presses for up down left right and so forth and that will out put to the 7" monitor via the composite video connector on the back of the board

just point me to a good distro that you might think will work for this project

i have all the stuff hanging around --- so i dont eant to spend the money to get one of those linksys or dlink media wifi units

thanks

chad

256Mb is a fair amount of RAM.It is very nearly enough to run some of the mainstream distros. I would, however, point you to some of the Xfce based distros - i.e. NOT Gnome or KDE. They tend to need 128Mb RAM so 256 Mb should be quick. Look at Sam Linux (based on PCLinuxOS), Xubuntu (based of the *ubuntus), Dreamlinux or Zenwalk (formerly known as Minislack and based on Slackware).
