NFS is a nightmare as far as security is concerned. It is just not designed with peers you cannot trust (aka the Internet) in mind.
It is fine as long as every connected machine is under your control, though.
And for internal networks, keep in mind that NFS uses UID's to permit/deny access to files and directories. Basically this means that you should use the same UID for each user on each of the connected machines.
