I'm sorry .. maybe I just don't understand this all, but isn't the worm essentially a product of Microsoft's shotty work? If so ... then to me it seems like they are trying to create a sort of alibi for themselves in case this ever happens. in order to be like .. "we tried to tell them to do it, so the ones who have been affected can only blame themself" NO! I would still blame them. just forget it .. before i go off again and feel the urge to kick Billy Gates in the head. I'm sorry, but does anyone else see Microsoft Inc. or whatever they call themself, as like the big bully on the block? but at the same time the little punk @$$ who runs and is always lying and crying when things don't go their way.

but what they are trying to do is prevent ppl from exploting the shotty work that they have. they figure if they can automaticlly patch stuff up then maybe then the crackers or anyone who wants to explote the holes wont be able to cause they will have automatically filled the hole and they wont have to tell anyone about the holes. i dont know if this even made any sense but im done for know.

Yeah...Basically they're trying to make it so that they can patch everyone's system as soon as they have a patch. This way the exploits have minimal time to spread and infect everyone's boxen.

which makes perfect sence i would perfer to have my box completely patched everytime they come up with one. and it would be nice so then i dont have to click on stuff everytime it tells me there is an update. but on another note for those ppl that use Warez versions of winXP would get caught more but personally i think they should pay fro an OS jst not as much as M$ charges. unless it is offered free legally. but i have other thoughts about other software but thats another story that i wont get into.

The only big problem I see with this lies in the patches themself. Some patches microsoft realeses have huge compatipility problem with stuff. Liek one patch conflicted with norton ani-virus and caused the machine to act like a 233mhz. I think it should come defaulted to auto-update, but let you disable it. I think they also need to let you remove a patch if it messes up your system..

Then there's the fact that they technically have full access to your system, so they could get anything they want to from you and you wouldn't know it. As long as they word the EULA for Windows correctly, it can be "legal."

I have my computer set so I dont get automatic updates. If I want to update it, then I will. But nothing automatic. To be honest, I wouldnt worry about it. As long as they give us a choice, I dont care. Once they dont give us that choice, and require us to take the auto update, then its the end of windows for me

Yeah...that's the big thing. Choice. Options. And that's the thing that a lot of Windows lacks, though I'm not too sure about this...they could make it mandatory, but would they really lose a lot of business? I'm sure that some people wouldn't like it, but they wouldn't go and install Linux (most of them). And all those pirates out there would have to buy a legal copy, else they couldn't update. And when the update is mandatory, then you can't really keep running when you can't get it.

/me shrugs.

Just some thoughts.
