Linux Laptop for the worlds poorest citizens

Quote:
MIT rolls out $100 Linux machine

By China Martens, IDG news service

The MIT Media Laboratory expects to launch a prototype of its US$100 laptop in November.. The facility has been working with industry partners to develop a notebook computer for use in education, particularly in developing countries. The laptops should start appearing in volume in late 2006.

These laptops will have 500MH/z cpu with 1GB ram, they will also be powerd by either ac or a crank handel the removal of the need for an externel power source is what will make these laptops really available to the poor, the price is expected to come down further over time.

I've seen this news before, as well, and I also was glad to hear it. This is a great way to bring modern technology to places it otherwise could never go.

On an entirely different tack, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who, on reading the article, thought "Man, one of those would be sweet!"
