Hello, I am a new user, having trouble installing VLC and make it work for me. Could someone tell me what's the easiest way to install VLC and all codecs to make it play everything its capable of? (I am using Mandriva Linux 2008.) Many thanks, A. Malik

daark.child Trusted Penguin Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: South Yorks, UK Posts: 4,067	Go to easyurpmi and setup the various main, contrib, updates and plf repos. After that start the GUI software manager and search for vlc, libdvdcss and win32-codecs.

I added all those repos using easy urpmi. But when I select VLC, I see this message! Sorry, the following package cannot be selected: - vlc-0.8.6c-3plf2008.0.i586 (due to unsatisfied libebml.so.0) What do you think could be the possible solution to this? Cheers, Malik

Hello daark.child,

First command seems to be ok, however, here is the out put of others!

# urpmi vlc
A requested package cannot be installed:
vlc-0.8.6c-3plf2008.0.i586 (due to unsatisfied libebml.so.0)

Probably I am a missing a repo, what do you say?

i've got the same problem

i've got the same problem as BrokenWings, when i try to run VLC, it seems that it's gonna open but it closes in less than a sec.
