Virtual Machine-just stop working?

I have a virtual machine setup to run Windows XP. It has worked in the past, but at one point simply stopped working and I can't think of anything I did to make it stop. This is a very vague plea, maybe too general, but if anyone has any ideas please let me know!
thanks!

What application are you using to virtualize? Qemu, virtualbox, vmware? Describe how it is failing in detail and if possible list any changes you made recently on your system (new kernel, application/service changes etc.)

I am using vmware.
When I click on the button to start my virtual machine, nothing happens. I really do not know of anything I did that would cause this, as I don't think any real changes were made on my computer between the time it was working and when it stopped. When I right-click the button and click "Configure Windows XP Button", and then click "Applications" and look at the button settings, the line for the "Work Path" is blank. This seems like it could be the problem, but I am not sure.
