How to keep the patches after a kernel upgrade ?

Hi everybody!
I want to know how to upgrade my kernel to the 2.6.xx (the newest version) but as i set up the last version, all the patches i had added to the previous kernel (like madwifi...) aren't available on the new kernel. Then, I want to know if i have to add all the patches again everytime i change my kernel ? Can't I catch the patches on the previous kernel ?
Thank you
