Wireless conncetivity (or lack thereof)
Now, I can't set up my wireless network card.
I have an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network adapter.
I have the iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode file, but I don't know where to put it.
I put it in /lib/firmware but when I try to set up the connection it says:
unable to find network interface for selected device (using iwl3945 driver).
I was told to downgrade from Mandriva 2009 KDE4 because of bugs, but now I can't even get online!
I actually found a better solution:
I plugged into the router using a LAN cable, and used the Software Installer to do it.
Oh, and by the way, my friend tells me that NDiSWrapper doesn't work with iwlwifi.
I forgot to tell that they have left out two or three packages from the DVD image, which are vital for wireless networking:
RPM Search wireless-tools-29-2mnb1.i586.rpm
You should download wireless-tools and its dependencies, I think libiw29 will be sufficient..
I checked, and that package is installed on my machine.
Now I have a new (old) problem.
I cannot connect to my home network.
I can connect to the network at school, and other people can connect to my home network, and I have previously connected to my home network. BUT NOW I CAN'T!!
You have no idea how mind-numbingly frustrating this is. It makes me wish I were a pagan, they have some pretty cool swear words.
Anyway, when I try to connect it tells me that it could not, and I should verify the settings in Mandriva Control Center.
The settings are fine.
When I launched the connection wizard from a konsole I got a [FAILED] response to testing the connection.
Before that I got about ten
SIOCETHTOOL: Operation not permitted
I think I am going to go crazy here, this is really frustrating.
I replaced the home router, I downgraded from Mandriva 2009 KDE4 to 2008.1 KDE3.5 and nothing works!!
OK. I fixed a setting in the router, and now it works.
None of the KDE applications will recognize the Internet connection.
Firefox does, KTorrent and Konqueror do not.
You're almost there!
If Firefox recognizes your network, have you give it some special settings you didn't to others?
Are you able to use the online urpmi mirrors?
Basically I'm using a wireless network via Rtl card, and Ndiswrapper. If I intend to download some torrent, I do the search with Firefox, and the I open the torrent file for download with KTorrent. Are you able to do that? Does it work?
I gave Firefox no special settings (that I know of).
I am not sure about the online urpmi mirrors.
When I wanted to install the JRE it told me to insert the Mandriva 2008.1 installer dvd. No problem there, I just mounted the ISO.
But, it did take forever to download... So I think I do have access to the online urpmi mirrors.
I downloaded the .torrent file using Firefox, and opened it in KTorrent. It just sits there being "stalled".
When I try a web page in Konqueror I get
An error occurred while loading http://www.google.com/: Could not connect to host http://www.google.com/.
Let's try something:
open Konsole and type (copy-paste)
Don't worry, this is a small Word document you can delete after. Does it download it?
