Install Mandrake 10.2 on Gateway dual core duo laptop

Ok, I'm trying to install Mandrake 10.2 on my laptop. I already have an XP and a Vista installed. I have free space at the beginning of HDD (SATA) that I want to install Linux on. I enter the install, choose language, accept, then the message:
'an error occurred - no valid devices were found on which to create new filesystems...'

what boot options could I use or do I need to check the BIOS (phoenix)

thanx

Mandrake 10.2 is very old and unsupported. It's entirely possible that it does not include drivers for more recent hardware. If your laptop can run Vista, it can run any modern linux distro.

you're right. We use Mandrake 8.1 as VNC servers where I work. Small install, simple and sweet. I wanted to upgrade them with something very similar but with more modern drivers and modules, etc. These VNC server machines run on HP Compaq d330s with Celerons. I have problems with Mdk 8.1 recognizing the mobo ethernet and video. Mdk 10.2 recognizes these and seems to be similar enough to use all of my custom scripts and configurations.
