GUI interface wont work with ATI video card

I just downloaded and installed mandrake 2007 free and during the install video worked fine. Even during the part where you can configure the hardware it detected that i had an ati video card. Once the install was finished and the computer rebooted the login portion was text based like a terminal window or dos. I typed in my user name and password then i typed in startx. The screen changed and i t appeared that everything was going to work fine but then then screen went black and the dos like interface came up again with a whole lotta stuff that i dont understand.

Post what appears on the command prompt after trying to start X. You can scroll back and forth with SHIFT+PGUP and SHIFT+PGDOWN.
