    Question file permission problems

I just installed Mandriva 2007 on my laptop today. When I tried to use my wireless card it said that I needed to download it.

I downloaded ipw2200-fw-3.0.tgz and tried to extract it into /lib/firmware

When I tried this, it said that I did not have the necessary permission. I'm confused because when given the option during installation to create a password for "root" (no idea what it is, I'm a total noob), I opted to not make one.

I also tried to manually move the files into the folder through Konqueror, but to no avail. The KDE help center said to use "super user mode" to get by this, but #1, there is no root password, and #2, it says to go to "System" on the K menu, and select "File Manager." I have no such thing under "System."

I have no idea what to do. Please help. Thanks ahead of time,

    -Ben
