Crazy Console Problem
When opening konqueror to view a file directory multiple shell terminals open. If it is just left (i.e. I don't start trying to close them) they run into the hundreds and completely freeze the system up.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!

If I understand the problem correctly...
Open Konqueror, go to Settings / Configure Konqueror / Behavior and in Misc Settings, uncheck Open folders in separate windows.
If that's not what you meant, can you rephrase the question/problem?oz

RE: Crazy Console Problem
Perhaps that would solve it but I can't get that far. Merely opening Konqueror causes the shell program to open over and over again, until there are 50+. I have to keep closing them and eventually konqueror crashes.

If you don't mind losing your settings and having to reset them, you could try renaming the /home/username/.kde/share/apps/ folder, then log out of KDE, then back in to let the folder rebuild itself.
If that doesn't work, you can delete the new folder and then rename the old folder back to what it was so you don't lose your settings.
Hope that makes sense, and helps...
