    Question Mandriva 2008 and older packages

    Well, I shall try to install Mandriva 2008 on my system. I wonder if my packages for 2007 shall work on the newer system. Any experiences ?
    P.S: I'm paying at my provider for the downloaded amount of data.

    Hi - The packages will be similar, but it's hard to predict the changes Mandriva has made between distros. I tried to retain 2006 while using 2007.1 packages at one point, and it destroyed my installation!

    If you simply upgrade to the next distro that will be fine, but there are times when a fresh install is needed, and that depends on your own judgement to a certain extent.
