    And here is the error I get:

    I would like to add that I am using 256MB Intel graphics card. Main memory is over 1GB.

    while playing ne media files like mp3 or any video files in any of the player
    it dosent give me any error..rather the media seems to be playing...
    but i get only hissing sound for my speakers....no actual music is played...
    in case of video files...
    no video is also not displayed...

    for ur information, m using an additional sound card..

    have you tried using xine or amarok do you get any audio out

    i have tried many players including amork, xine, koffine etc...
    but m getting the same output

    vlc open then close

    try with disabling compiz effects (if enabled of course)
    I had the same problem (vlc open then close automaticlly) until I disabled compiz effects
