booting problems
Hi,
Im new to linux and got some copied CD's (4 in total) off a friend, and had a go at installing it. I booted fine with the cd 1 and after wiping windows from the HD with the linux partioning thing, I installed sucessfuly.
I boot, it goes thru all the boot loading things and comes up with login.
I type my user name i choose during installation (not the root pwd).
type in the pass, and it comes up with:
[andrew@localhost andrew] $
what do i do?
do i still have to install stuff from the other cds?
oh, im running
Pentium 133
64mb RAM
2mb Graphics Card.
Is this allright specs for running it?

if you installed an X window system, you can run "startx" to get to a GUI (which i assume is what you want).
If you didnt install X, proberly the easiest way for a newbie to fix the problem would be to re-instal linux but remember to include Xwindows packages.
(and dont forget to include a complier like gcc!).

I tried reinstalling, went fine and when it came to the login screen, I logged in fine and then typed in "startx" the screen went blank, then came up with a whole lot of messeges,
this is what stood out most:
X10: fatel IO error 104 (connection reset by peer) on 7c server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining

loading linus 10.0
I recently loaded mandrake 9.2 and got the same message. I just w2nt ahead and reinstalled, even formatted the hard drive and made sure I loaded x window system, and it worked the 2nd time. Just had to click my icon and put in my password. I'm really new to linux and know nothing about command line. Something I need to learn I guess
