hi guys in windows world i got pretty used to asomething called 'total video converter' which would convert any format to another and even audio........can neone tell me wats the equivalent in this world?

Mencoder backend. It is CLI. There are some GUI frontends. KMENC15, Konverter.....OGMRip... AcidRip....

there is also avidemux for avi files and you can try running total video converter from wine
