    Mouse wheel troubles

I'm trying to use mouse wheel rolling+CTRL for zooming in and out in Inkscape and Gimp on my P-III class PC), but it simply won't work, whereas on my other PC ( P-IV class) works normally. I've tried it both with USB and PS/2 mice. I don't undersand what makes the difference. Any ideas?

Well, I've solved the trouble with reinstallation of system. Obviously there are bugs in some of the packages.
I wish PulseAudio wouldn't exist. Another sound server , another troubles.
