Run XFdrake and make sure that X is using the openchrome driver. If the openchrome driver does not work as it should, you may have to revert to the fbdev or vesa drivers. The only driver that will work properly on my laptop (Chrome9 IC IGP) is the fbdev.

    Drivers

it is using the openchrome drivers. How do I tell it to use the fbdev driver and then load that driver? Thanks for all your help.

You have to scroll through the driver options shown by XFdrake and then select fbdev when you see it. An alternative would be to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change the driver from openchrome to fbdev. One thing I forgot to mention above is that you can also try disabling the GLX extension in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
