When trying to resize partition (xp) can't make enough space
Hi. I have win xp on my main drive and want to take my 40 Gig drive, resize it to allow for 15 gig to be used for mandrake linux. When I try to resize it says I have 29 Gig free but when I move the slider (in the mandrake install program) it will only allow me to free up 5 Gig! I have no idea why.
Suggestions??
thanks in advance.

Methinks that the XP install is not contigious, ie there's probably some at the end of the disk. I had a 40Gb which would only resize to give me 4Gb.
Removed XP.
You could try defrag first.

I had the same problem.
If you use a third party partition software like Partition Magic, it will work. If you don't have PM, don't fret... You can use qdparted (sp?) that comes with Knoppix.
As a last resort, you could use fdisk
