How to Install gcc

I have Mandriva 2009. But it does not have a gcc or any other compiler. I need it. What do I do????

Go to the console and as root type

urpmi gcc

Or you can do it through the software installer under "development", or put gcc in the search box

This did not help. I tried it.
When i tried urpmi gcc, it gave an error
no package found named gcc

even in development section it does list a gcc-cpp , a c preprocessor
but i need a gcc and even when i tried the gcc command at console , it could not find the command.

There is a meta package the contains GCC I'm not on my linux box right now so can't look up the name of it.. but go to the packing manager and search for complier or C++ it should lead you to the correct package to install.
