Should I be worried about this worm that has infected millions of computers?
I'm kinda new to Linux, and I heard (a rumor? myth?) that Linux cannot get infected....

That looks to be a problem for Windows machines only:
Remove W32.Downadup | Symantecoz

→ no private messages requesting computer support - post them on the forums!
→ please use the "report post" button to alert our forum admins to problematic posts rather than responding to them yourself.

Linux can get infected, but not many virii or worms are targeted for linux, also, the only way it could really crash your system is if you were running as root or gave it your root password, even if you allowed a malicious application to run as your user only your home folder files will be at risk, unless the malicious application is trying to hack your root password or a keylogger to detect your password
