how to connect to internet (modem already setup)

Hello again, sorry to bother with this stupid problem
ive set up my adsl connection and instaled the
driver for my modem wich probably worked since
all light's of the modem are on. But how do i connect ?
what is the command i have to put into the console ?
(terminal) just opening the browser and typing
an www. adres wont work.
thanx in advance.. (im eager to get the internet
connection set up so i can finaly totaly switch to linux !! )
