Since I have configured to multi-boot through the winloader the options as given in the boot.ini of xp home appear. I can start win xp home and the linux successfully. But if I try to load xp pro I get the error - corrupt or missing hal.dll

I can't help you much on Windows Boot Loader. Sometimes Windows/windows dual boot doesn't work if you install second windows OS after Linux Installation. Is it possible for you to re-install XP Pro? If yes then remove GRUB before XP Pro Installation. Its very easy to re-install GRUB later on.

I solved it, I changed the partition numbers in the boot.ini file. Looks like that if there is error in the numbering of the partition in the boot.ini file, then also this type of error can come up.
