    unabel to open X server

    hi guys ,

    I would be grateful if any one could answer me ...

    When I tried to run Mandriva 2008 , and X window does not start when I write display

    I have taken : unable to open X server ' '.

    I tired to command export display=:0.0 but it also does not work please help ???

    Can you access the command prompt (press ctrl+alt+f1 )

    and can see any error file /var/log/messages file
    cat /var/log/mesages | more
    use space bar to nagviate the output.

    Have you tried installing Mandriva 2009.It's pretty easy and I love it for GUI and easy user friendliness ,though performace is lower than debian or fedora.

    EDIT: If you already in command prompt & want to start X mode use the command

    And also post any error messages here
