dvd writer and mandriva a new look
ok i had this problem after upgradng to 2010. it would not recognize my dvd drive after all was installed. today i used this drive to put a clean mandriva 2010 one on a fresh install. after it is fully installed the drive again stops working. the tray wont open or anythng. any ideas

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Replaced dvd drive
here is what happenind after i ran rh command requested: after replacing the drive it opens and closes but when i put a cd or dvd nothing happens. no screen to give me options to do. i tried kaffeine and hit play dvd but nothing happens nor with a cd. amorak plays mp3's though not sure how to get it to try and play cd's

Try restarting HAL as root
service haldaemon restart
No guarantee of success. I had a similar problem, not with CD drive but with removable USB sticks after installing a newly compiled kernel. Restarting HAL was what cleared the problem.
