    there should be "urpmi ftp://ftp." at the beginning of that command
    and ".rpm" at the end
    but i'm not allowed to type urls apparantly.

    If you put it in code tags you should be able to post it, I believe.

    But anyway, try just downloading to your home folder and installing from the local file instead.

    Yes!!! It worked!
    probably, if I'd phrased the question better earlier, that would have been a pretty easy thing to do. But it's all lessons in Linux for me, I'm sure I've got many more coming my way. Thanks again.
