    [root@localhost root]# ifconfig eth0 up
    [root@localhost root]#

    doesnt do anything

EDIT: when I do ifconfig eth0 it shows something, typing it out holdon
P.S. if I put a space after eth (eth 0 ) it says unknown interface: no such device.

since ifconfig eh0 up returned no errors, that's good. but the output of ifconfig eth0 shows you don't yet have an Ip address. do you use DHCP or what?

Probably, I don't know. I was tinkering around with the settings in Mandrake, what do you suggest I do? The network is on an Apple Airport router.

well how are IP addresses assigned on your network? like are they by dhcp or do you set them manually?
