trying to install MySQL on mandrake community edition, but asks me for disk 4. I presume then that MySQL is not available for the community edition?

Go to the link below to set up remote software sources for mandrake's package manager.
http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/
Then just select using the mandrake control centre package manager and it will download and install.
Don't forget you may want to install apache and php as well?

You should really try XAAMP out. Installs MySQL, Apache, and PHP5. All in one package. Great stuff, easy to install. I love the linux community, always making things easier for us newbs.
