Since you cannot find the file, is there any chance you're using lilo (that is the default MDK bootloader)? Jeremy EDIT: s/change/chance...

When I used the Mepis CD and viewed the files under Konqueror for Mandrake I saw the grub folder. I dont think I installed lilo.

Ok, but I'm not giving up yet. Do you see a /boot/grub/menu.lst file?

That one worked. Here you go.

    root@1[root]# cd /mnt/hda6
    root@1[hda6]# cat /boot/grub/menu.lst
    default 0
    timeout 15
    color cyan/blue white/blue
    foreground ffffff
    background 2f5178
    splashimage /boot/grub/mepis.xpm.gz

Haha. Whoops again. Your command should be

    Code:
    cat /mnt/hda6/boot/grub/menu.lst
The menu.lst you printed is the one for Mepis. If you don't give an absolute path for mounted directories it tries them on your local filesystem, which at the moment is Mepis. *ahem* I'm usually better at this, really.

Hmm. Okay. What do you have in your /mnt/hda6/boot directory? Is there a grub folder? If so, what's in that? Are there any .conf or .lst files at all?

*sigh* Ok. What about /mnt/hda6/etc/grub.conf? Does that one exist?

Everything that you see there is what is in those folders. Is there any other place I can look.
