Problems with fan, battery and 3D card
Hi everyone, first I wish to apologize for my english but I'm Italian.
I'm trying to run Mandrake 10.1 official on my laptop. I've an Acer Aspire 2023WLMi an here is its configuration:
Intel Pentium Centrino 1,6GHZ, 400MHz FSB, 2MB L2 cache
Intel 855GME chipset
Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG(802.11 b/g WLAN)
15.4" WXGA TFT LCD
60GB Ultra DMA-100 HDD
DVD Super Multi Drive
512MB DDR SDRAM
ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 128 MB dedicated
I'm facing several problems and here they are:
1) The fan is always up working at full rithm even when not needed. I said "not needed" because both Fedora and WindowsXp make the fan work properly so I quess that keeping it always up isn't the right way to manage it. ACPI is up a but it doesn't seem to help.
2) The battery status on start up is always "92% charged" even when the pc is connected to the power line and battery fully charged. Usually I've to restart the battery controller and everything goes fine
3) Has anyone an idea about how to make the 3D card work? I can't find the drivers anywhere!
Please help me, I hate windows and I don't want to use it anymore!!!

Hi bianconiglio
For your fan problem... unfortunatly Im of no use since I didnt work with linux on any of my laptop
as for your
ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 128 MB dedicated
i'm currently experiencing MAJOR work with the driver with some people help and ATI as well..
my setup is a little different BUT ATI driver will have the same configuration.
FIRST !!!!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
make sure you have a backup of your XF86Config file
go into /etc/X11
you will find a file called XF86Config
copy this file to the same dir but like this
cp XF86Config XF86Config.old
SECOND Dload the driver from ATI
http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/l...9&submit=GO%21
this is the link your looking for.
the 4.3.0 is probly the version you have since you have MDK10.1 official (i have 10.1 community and its the one I use)
Cd to your downlaod directory
log as ROOT - SU
rpm -Uh --force <package_file_name>.rpm // this will install the package
fglrxconfig // this is to start the configuration of the display
after you restart your X-Server
CTRL-ALT-BACKSPC
startx
if EVER IT CRASHES (mine is still crashing but im working with dual head display, so your should work perfect) you will need to restore the XF86Config file
what you'll need to do,
is go into
/etc/X11
rm XF86Config-4 // that s the file ATI driver made
Y you want to remove it
then cp XF86Config.old XF86Config
this will put back the original config file
exit // from ROOT
startx
this will recomplile the XF86COnfig file and get you back to the original configuration
hopefully everything will be working fine
